| Does cheat engine work the same as wemod when it comes to how the cheats are executed? I have been wanting to switch for a while but have been hesitant to, I have a few questions that will put me at ease. Does cheat engine use the same method as wemod to execute the cheats, Can you be banned on multiplayer games for having cheat engine on your pc if it is not running, would you be banned if you accidentally left it running, can it it anyway damage your pc, and can there be virus or malware in downloadable cheat tables?

no, assuming you actually close CE (if you use the kernelmode functions, which is not used by default until you explicitly use them, you do need to close that as well)

Most of the time no, only when you actively modify the online game.
But some developers are more strict than others so no guarantees here

Not physically, and in software only when you explicitly tell it to

Scripts can do pretty much anything. From downloading files from the internet and executing them
Luckily cheat tables are in plain text, and you can read through them before you execute their scripts
General rule of thumb: If they use encryption or stuff like getinternet and loadstring to hide their scripts, DO NOT USE IT
But besides that, just read through the scripts and try to understand what the code does and you'll be fine
(And as always, use trusted and confirmed sources, like fearlessrevolution or opencheattables, read the comments by other users. Never trust a random youtube video with a link to a .CT as youtube allows authors to delete comments they don't like)

Just lua function calls that have the text getInternet() or loadstring(something)
after you confirm all the text is readable (so no encryption) just do a scan for those

I think this is too general.
"A Great Axe!" and he cuts them all off without discrimination!
This is a very general approach and "The Good, the Bad, the Ugly" is a catch-all slur. There are people who have created Trainers using this method for years and continue this service without putting the user at risk.
Otherwise, those who aim to cause harm cannot hold on anyway.
One more detail; Many of the mentioned cloaking codes are also done to try to prevent people from stealing their Trainer codes.
I do not accept the general interpretation of the aforementioned coding method as "malicious".
I kindly ask you to consider the "Exceptions" and I apologize if I have been misunderstood.

It's for cases where you don't trust the author (like a random guy you've never met before on the internet)
If you don't trust it then read through the code and decide for yourself if you can trust it, and if the code is being obfuscated/hidden then I do recommend to not run it
but if you do trust it then go ahead and run it and hope your trust was well placed
it's also one of the reasons why ce's sourcecode is available. So you don't have to spend hours decompiling CE but can directly see what it does

Of course, I agree with your first sentence.
"These are important steps to be cautious about authors you do not know (this is the first time you encounter the subject) and for whom you cannot find references. (encryption or stuff like getinternet and loadstring checks.)
I take your second statement with the exception stated in parentheses.
And thank you for adding this explanation.
Oh of course! This is an excuse that malicious people also use, "I encrypt or hide my code to protect it" etc.
Of course, "Reference" and "Past services" are important in this case.
