Be gentle I've never done something like this. So I play this game called hearts of iron 4 fun game I would recommend, however I like to use console commands. There are a particular set of commands only developers can use however I was looking through cheat engine for things I could possibly change. I found 4 instances of
Code: | 1F7C6FC30AF "developer":"false"
1F7C7ADAC8F "developer":"false"
1F7C8ABABDF "developer":"false"
1F7CA27EA4F "developer":"false" |
Okay. So I tried looking at those addresses in memory. I tried changing the string from false to true manually, however, it ended up changing it to truee. I assume this happened because I was taking a long string and making it shorter, which I don't think is allowed with memory that is already allocated? I don't know too much about this but I tried replacing the last character in the string to a an empty space to no avail or I was doing it wrong. I also tried just removing that character, but that did not seem to do anything either.
Here is the byte array of that specific string if that helps. I think this is called the byte array.
22 64 65 76 65 6C 6F 70 65 72 22 3A 22 66 61 6C 73 65 22
Now that I'm looking at this byte array I am starting to understand a little more about the codes. It looks like the 22s are the double quotes. 3A is the :
It literally spells it out....
Essentially I would like some help being able to patch this value from false to true. It can't just be "false" as there are other values referencing that for other parts of the game. It's gotta be the "developer":"false" string. Again I am new to this, if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong and what to do to learn this that would be great. Thank you

You probably only see the result (Code) written by the game.
What you need is to find the function code that sent this code and affect it.
It can be a function assigned to a button, or a command inside a function that triggers (Click true, click false).
Most of the time, you can access these command codes at the first launch of the game.
There may be many different code dumps, but if you change your current code to true ("74 72 75 65" (+ "20" or "02")) and you don't get results, try to find the code of the command that changed it.
