How do I cheat?

So I am new to Cheat Engine and I am struggling to figure something out. When I open up a game and use it to increase the number of different items in my inventory I end up with a list on Cheat Engine of all the items I have increased and while I am playing I can go back to Cheat Engine every time one gets low and simply add to it.

When I am done for the day though, how can I save the list so that I don't have to do all the setup work again trying to find each inventory stack. I thought it seemed quite self-explanatory. The first time I did this, when I tried to exit Cheat Engine it asked if I wanted to save the list. I clicked yes and saved the list in the default location with the default filename.

The next time I opened the game, I opened Cheat Engine and was asked if I wanted to load the related list. I clicked yes again and the list comes back but instead of showing the amounts in my inventory there are just two ?? there instead. Why won't it work? What am I doing wrong?

Values can change where they're stored when a process is restarted.

The two most common ways of automatically finding it again are to either find a pointer to the value or hook code that accesses the value. The former is usually easy if you learn to use the pointer scanner properly, and the latter requires basic knowledge of the x86 / x86-64 instruction set.

Completing the CE tutorial might help, and there are plenty of other resources online (e.g. this old CE topic).
