After learning cheatengine for some none-cheaty stuff i decided to try out making a simple trainer for a game. As my first game to make a trainer for i choose pinball and found some tutorials and followed them step by step, but i always have the problem that when the score is lets say 100, i then change the value of the only adress with that value to lets say 9000, i then go back in game and 100 is still displayed as score, so i hit something that normally gives me 100 points and the value goes from 9000 to 200 and the display in-game goes from 100 to 200. I tried out other games too and have the same problem, whatever i do in cheatengine has nearly 0 impact on the game, because whenether something changes ingame it is like the game remembers the oldvalue and uses that like a backup to continue.

The value you are changing is likely just set there in preparation for printing to the screen. You have to figure out where that value is coming from.

Since you say that's the only one that shows up in a search then the real value is likely in a different format.

I tried every value type and can only find that one, but in the tutorial he founds 2 of the same type. This persists through different games.

Just taking some swings in the dark.

Try looking for a value that isn't recorded in the same way as what you see. For instance if you see 10 maybe the value is recorded as 20 in the game. Try starting with unknown value search and using increased value and unchanged value to narrow it down.

Try different scan settings. Try writable checked and executable, copyonwrite greyed (box). Try unchecking fast scan. Look under cheat engine settings. Make sure under memory region types all 3 types are checked.

i already tried the increase search method. i got it to work by putting everything on box and unchecking fast search, thank you sir. is there a way to upvote your answer?
