Read this article and made me realize how corrupt Walmart is. I've been working at Walmart for 6 years now and I'm barely in livable wage. I have 4 kids I have to support and they're a totally evil company. I have to work during the holidays and I'm still on welfare. They don't pay people enough. I mean they've employed 1% of Americans but so what??? The Walton family are greedy! They slave work their employees as if they didn't have a choice to quit and find another job because they cant! Cos most of the Walmart employees didn't bother taking their life seriously when they were younger and are now facing the consequence of working minimum wage. I mean seriously. Me and my coworkers are upset because I'm probably going to have to work this Sunday and totally miss the Superbowl. Like It's not my business and all and I didn't start the business and I didn't take the risk of starting the business nor did I put in the blood and sweat to build a multi billion dollar company but they should totally change their mission statement and business philosophy and pay their employees more! They should also provide jobs to the countries that doesn't have jobs as well. Walmart should be responsible for solving my personal problems that I made for myself. And don't get me started with the Walton family! They got so much billions and they don't even donate or contribute to society. I mean it's not my money so I shouldn't tell other people how to use their money but still!! Money is the root of all evil. _________________

Thanks for opening my eyes Kyle. I was so blinded. Bernie Sanders is the answer to all of the problems that I created for myself. I am so helpless I can't help myself so I need Sanders and tax payer's money to help me out of my situation. And fuck those rich billionaires for being so greedy and fucking up the system!! They don't care about my problems. They only care about themselves. _________________

This post gave me cancer.
>Read this article and made me realize how corrupt Walmart is. I've been working at Walmart for 6 years now and I'm barely in livable wage. I have 4 kids I have to support and they're a totally evil company. I have to work during the holidays and I'm still on welfare.
For some reason you're pretending to be what you imagine the "typical" walmart employee to be. Some people like this exist, but it's not all of them, but nevermind, we'll continue.
>They don't pay people enough. I mean they've employed 1% of Americans but so what??? The Walton family are greedy!
This is the part I take the most issue with. You seem to imply that because they've employed 1% of America, they must not be greedy, but you're overlooking the fact that they can employ so many people because they pay shit. It's like, the entire point that Sander's is making and you don't seem to understand. If they could pay employees half as much as they do now, they would employ twice as many people! Then they'd be employing 2% of Americans, and in your eyes, they'd be even less greedy.
>They slave work their employees as if they didn't have a choice to quit and find another job because they cant! Cos most of the Walmart employees didn't bother taking their life seriously when they were younger and are now facing the consequence of working minimum wage.
Not everything is as cut and dry, black and white as that, you thinking so shows a great deal of immaturity. Regardless, the minimum wage exists to ensure that businesses don't fuck over employees and to ensure all employees earn enough to live decently, which is not the case anymore.People who work min. wage jobs are not "lesser" and "deserving what they get".
> mean seriously. Me and my coworkers are upset because I'm probably going to have to work this Sunday and totally miss the Superbowl.
Just trying to make your imaginary character look petty, tsk.
>Like It's not my business and all and I didn't start the business and I didn't take the risk of starting the business nor did I put in the blood and sweat to build a multi billion dollar company but they should totally change their mission statement and business philosophy and pay their employees more!
TIL if you weren't the one who made the business, you should have no opinions on how it's ran. You'd do well in the oil business with your mindset. They should pay their employees more just because literally every business should pay their employees more. It's not just walmart, it's bigger than the rules that one guy who started a business wants to live by. We all know walmart is always going to default to paying the min. wage, so it's the min. wage that needs to be raised, not Wal-mart's individual pay wages, but all of them. Since it is beyond walmart, it is beyond the guy who made walmart.
>They should also provide jobs to the countries that doesn't have jobs as well. Walmart should be responsible for solving my personal problems that I made for myself.
What the fuck are you even talking about.
> They got so much billions and they don't even donate or contribute to society. I mean it's not my money so I shouldn't tell other people how to use their money but still!! Money is the root of all evil.
I'm not sure that they don't donate, and they do contribute by literally being a store where you can get almost anything. However, they are making a killing by paying slave wages, just like every other business, and it needs to stop. |

Obviously not everyone is like this, because I'm not like this and I'm sure a lot of people here in CEF are not like this. At least I hope not. But don't pretend that majority of people aren't like this. I've lived among these type of people. My parents are for one similar in these mindset - not to the extreme but they resemble some of these qualities. There are only a handful of people I know that aren't like this who have come from the same place I have. Take a look at Jay - Z and where he came from. How many Jay -Z's have come out of the type of environment he grew up in? Because I notice that from the type of environment I grew up in. I only know one or two other people that have come out of the environment I grew up in. I mentioned West Virginia in another thread where it was heroin central over there at least in some cities (like Huntington). I only have met one or two people out of many who have come out of the environment they were raised in and they agreed. People become the environment they surround themselves with. Majority of people live in shitty lives. Do I feel bad for them? Of course. But you can't help them because they can't help themselves. I don't know what income bracket you grew up in but mine was in low income bracket where my parents made less than $40k a year. So don't berate me as if I don't know what I'm talking about because I've grown up among these types of people. Some - more like a rare few have some valid reasoning. But that doesn't make up for majority of the people in the bracket. They all make excuses and complain. Their job sucks? Get another job. Can't qualify for another job? Acquire the skills to. It's as if they have accepted the place they're in and don't bother to move up in the stratum. I spent majority of my time in high school reading books and acquiring skills and constantly pushed myself outside of my comfort zone. In college I did the same - networked and building relationships and doing practical things whilst my friends went snowboarding during winterbreak and frat parties in the weekends. I can go on and on and on but I'm not sure if that's worth my time because I assume that you're just going to try to cherry pick my argument.
Edit: Just to reply to the part that concerns you the most. Yeah they pay people shit. But without those jobs. Those people wouldn't be hired ANYWHERE. Why? Because they didn't bother to achieve the necessary skills to. You know what they do after work? Grab a beer and watch football instead of reading books. They don't have time to read books? How come the busiest people I know manage to squeeze in 30 minutes before bed? Look there's sweatshops all over in the world that pays worse than Walmart. Without those sweatshops by the way - the people working at those sweatshops would be starving or dead. You would think people want to work there. If there was another job they could find, wouldnt it make sense for them to find a job elsewhere? But they can't because there are no other jobs elsewhere.
Ask yourself this as a person who has nothing. Would you rather work at place that makes you work 10-12 hours a day for $1/hr or sit around and do nothing and have no money for food? Because those are their only 2 options. There's no 3rd option. _________________

On top that none of the corporations have the obligation to help these issues (while they already helped more than the people that complain about them). They're not running a charity. They're running a business. And they're providing a great service to the rest of the population. Liberal hippies people who complain about Apple. They pay all of their taxes that they're required to. IIRC although I may be wrong they pay the most if not one of the most in taxes. Their only and sole obligation as a company is to make great products. Not run a non-profit world saving bullshit. If you wanna save the world. Start your own foundation. _________________

I will agree that there are a great many people like this, who fall into a rut, get trapped in dead end jobs and can't find a way out. There are also a great number of people who are just simple people. They are not as intelligent as others, they are just average joe's going about their average joe lives. So, maybe they can't find any higher level skills for themselves, maybe because they don't want to, aren't really trying, or whatever. These average people still need to eat and to have shelter though, so these people get minimum wage jobs. That's why the minimum wage exists, to ensure that those common folk that do the simple jobs can still survive in the modern world.
Also, generally speaking, "Get another job" doesn't work, because to me it's about the minimum wage in general, and not just Wal-mart. Most people who work at wal-mart lack the skills to do anything else that's going to pay more than minimum wage, and there aren't a lot of opportunities out there anyway. Wal-mart's problem is a little different, but is tied into the fact that the minimum wage is so low.
When we take into account the fact that the minimum wage is so low that a large portion of Wa-mart's employees end up on goverment support like food stamps, then those people have to turn around with their food stamp money and buy groceries at Wal-mart because Wal-mart's groceries are so cheap because they don't pay their employees much, we end up with a system where the government is inadvertently funneling a positive feedback loop that is funding Wal-mart. This is a problem in my eyes.
As far as the people themselves go, I grew up is fairly massive poverty, I've met the filth of society, I know they are generally no good, but I still think they should be able to afford to live. Remember that these people are the way they are, like you said, because of their environment, but also because of their internal worlds. Intelligent people can rise above and apply their gifted minds to do things that will actually earn "Real" money. They know the importance of reading, and the importance of improving yourself. It's very easy if you are intelligent to grow frustrated that more people aren't doing as you do, but remember that most people are simply not "on that level". Like I've said, most people are rather simple, but these people still need to eat. |

I wasn't trying to say that these people should starve and die. Im saying that as much as majority of people don't like to hear it. It's not businesses and corporations jobs to provide these guys with food. Their only responsibility is to provide a service to the majority. Some of these guys find loopholes but as far as Im concerned majority of them are not unethical like the foodstamp loophole you mentioned. Companies will find whatever ways they can to pay as little taxes as they can pay as little as they can to employees just to lower their overheads and maximize profits. Here's the thing that will bite the most. That's not wrong. Only and simply because that's not their job. Again, their job is solely to provide a service to the majority. I don't think any savvy business man would want to pay more in taxes or pay for any extra cost that would be detrimental to their success. As a matter of fact no intelligent human beings would want to. There's many factors as to why, but thats not the argument. But again, that's not wrong. If the people are starving and dying and can't live. That's not the corporations fault. Thats the governments fault. Because why do businesses exist? To provide a service. Why do governments exist? To govern... _________________

I agree, so the government needs to raise the minimum wage, because it is what needs to be done and we can't count on corporations to do it. |
