|
|
So I'm a complete noob. Took me 2 solid days to find the pointer I was after.
Forgive my complete ignorance on this topic but I'm trying to get 300% permanent Magic find in a offline D1 mod. I hate MF with a fiery passion.
The problem I am having is values are different in game, than they are in CE. Example;
0% in game = 174 (byte) in CE
21% in game is 179 (byte) in CE
25% in game is 183 (byte) in CE
Removing any items that have MF in game sets me at 0%, which is 174 in CE. Changing the value in CE seems to have no rhyme or reason.
175 - 1%
189 = 15%
199 = 9%
If I change the values too much (like a 200) in CE it goes to like 79989898989% in game, which is WAY too much.
I have switched it to every "type" (2 bytes, 4 bytes, etc) and none of the values are remotely close, so I was wondering if there was some sort of process to figure this out.
I have searched around but I'm not sure exactly how to word the problem I am having to find it via Google.
I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question or is answered here on the board, and I have clearly missed it. If someone could help me, or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Highlight that address and hit CTRL+B to open the memory viewer, and the bottom half of the new window should focus on that address at the top-left of it.
In that window, changed bytes will turn red for a second. Scroll up one line and then change your MF in-game to see if you're one byte off or something.

Ok so I did as you said, and I can see two places where the byte turns red. One in the "F8" column and on in the "05" column, if that makes any sense. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff, this is my first foray into this. Sorry

Could just check all the values; since it's a byte you can only have a max of 255. Though it could also be a "display" address; have you tried playing the game for a bit with that crazy % value to see if it works?

Screenshot and point out the values that change?
Also try changing the other one manually and see what's up.

Yeah its raining rares and uniques. So its not just a display value.

I started doing this.
CE / In-Game
1 = 3
2 = 4
3 = 5
4 = 6
5 = 7
6 = 8
7 = 9
8 =10
9 = 11
10 = 12
11 = 13
12 = 14
13 = 15
14 = 0 <--- odd
15 = 1
16 = 2
Then its just odd after this. I was never able to get it into triple digits. So it looks like I will have to test it in 4 bytes or something?

So in the memory viewer or just switching the type from "byte" to let's say "4 bytes" and changing the numerical value seeing what it does in game? The memory viewer is Greek to me btw.
Sorry I don't know more about this stuff guys, I really appreciate the help though.
*Edit*
Ok So by messing with those two values in the memory viewer thing I was able to randomly get it to 250%ish. However not sure how to keep it that way. This stuff is confusing lol. In the end the fact I found the right pointer to mess with MF is a win in my book, though I'd rather have it lower than 10,000,000%, but whatever lol. If anyone has some ideas on how to more accurately change this value I'm all ears. Thanks!

In the memory viewer, can you show us which bytes change? Just like, scroll up a few lines from your normal thing, change MF around in-game a bit, see which bytes change, then circle them in paint or something.

The image names are the percent of magic find I have.
I am 99.999% certain that the top most row of numbers values are for Vitality, since both rings have Vit on then that I am using. And to highlight the values I was swapping them on and off, that's why they are apparent on the "0%" MF image. I changed the value of one of these values and I died in town, so pretty sure it has nothing to do with Magic find all to do with Vitality.
Sorry it took a bit to get these posted, was busy this morning. Thank you Rydian, I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Okay those definitely aren't part of the same value, are those individual things that are added together to reach your total MF? Is your total MF not visible or something? (I've never played 1, just 2.)
Right-click on the address you've normally been editing for MF, find out what accesses this address. Edit MF in-game a bit, then screenshot that window for us.

Ok. First, it's a mod that incorporated many aspects and assets from D2. MF in this mod is the same as D2. I can include a in-game screen shot if you'd like.
Second, the value I've been editing is a pointer, and when i choose the "find out what accesses this address" it asks me;
Find out what accesses this pointer
or
Find what accesses this address pointed at by this pointer.
Just want to be clear on which one to do as to not waste your time.

The address pointed at by this pointer.
And otherwise, finding and editing your total MF value doesn't work?

Including two shots here.
First, I hope this is the correct window you requested.
The first is 0% magic find, and the pointer is set to byte
The second is set to 4 Bytes and I changed the numerical value to show you what it does in game to the Magic Find value. This is not a visual representation only, the drops are flipping insane.
I need to make a quick run to town be back in ten minutes or so.

Does a 5th line show up in that log window if you kill an enemy?

So I put on my gear. I took off anything that had MF on it earlier. Anyway I did this and it added a bunch more too it.
So I made a new game and with my gear on the it did it again. So it must be the stats on the gear? I also went and killed a monster and it did not add anything new.
