Hey Everyone!
Just got Sunless Sea on Steam and its awesome, although I've already been killed by bandits, starved to death, and mutinied against so many times its giving me a headache. So I looked into CheatEngine to improve my chances at this game and decrease my chances I'll go bald from ripping my hair out. I've never used a tool like this before and the tutorial seemed simple enough but when I actually tried it on my Sunless Sea.exe file...uh, things just went wrong I guess.
Anyways, I only wanted to change the values of the in game currency; I'm not looking for a god mode button anywhere. I just run into the problem that there are thousands of hits after my first scan and I'm only looking for one value.
So my questions for you all:
A) How do I figure out the address to the in game currency?
B) If I cannot find the address how can I still change the values accurately?
Really appreciate any input,
Bandit

Welcome to CE!
If you haven't already you should start with the tutorial that comes with cheat engine in the install directory. As it will cover the basics of what you need to know.
Indeed after the initial scan there will be thousands of values. However the majority of these values will be unrelated to what you are looking for.
Additional scans are required to narrow it down.

You can try doing an exact value search for the displayed currency. Earn or spend currency and search for the new value. Rinse and repeat and it shouldn't take too long to find it.
If you are unable to find it still then it may not be stored how you think. Try doing "unknown initial value" as the first scan and then use increased/decreased value for the sequential scans.
When you are down to just a just a few values change them a few at a time to find which one works.

Not sure what you mean by in game currency as i don't think theres any type of currency in this game.
But the values in this game are stored as 4 bytes so you should have no problems finding them using exact value search. You have to narrow them down by doing a second or third or nth scan until you reach a few address and change them.
This game should be easy for you to train though, i just made a trainer for it a while ago (you can find it in the trainers section on this site) so if you need any help let me know and i will share my table with you if that helps you somehow or you can use the trainer.

Is there any way I can bring a dead captain back to life? As in, I'm at the "Lost with all hands" message on my autosave because I had the gall to try to refuel in London before I'd gotten around to collecting a delivery for the Blind Bruiser (the fucking game doesn't make it clear there's any kind of time limit on that and wouldn't let me sell stuff to afford the payoff), so I need to make that message not appear.
I appreciate that's trickier to find than just editing the number of echoes or fuel you have, but thought I'd ask. Sort of addicted to this game even while I'm spitting bile about lazy programming/unclear writing, etc.
