I can hardly notice the difference between normal channels and HD channels on my 80 inch tv. Sure, the difference is more noticeable on larger screens but I think paying much more for a slightly larger screen is fucking stupid as well. To think that some idiots buy TVs so large they have to go sit at like 30 feet to be able to watch it comfortably. Just buy a smaller cheaper TV and sit at a normal distance for fucks sake. Use the extra money to literally save hundreds of lives instead.

if you cannot notice the difference between SD and HD then you seriously need to get your eyes checked, because the difference is night and day. I can even tell the difference between tvs and monitors with better colors, and I notice immediately when someone has that shitty effect on their tv that predicts frames to make it appear more smoother.

on your 80 in tv, if you read the graph, you should actually be sitting 40 feet away if you aren't viewing 4K (btw HD is only 720p, Full HD is 1080p), so you are doing the thing that you hate yourself.

you can't just "save hundreds of lives" with money. poverty, hunger, and slavery all exist to make our lives more comfortable, us using our own money to give to the people that we are taking advantage of is a terrible thing to do. its like forcing a man to become homeless, and then having them thank us because we build them a homeless shelter.

so instead of pretending you're some amazing person because you don't buy a 4K tv when everything else you own is made by the blood of african and chinese, try to enjoy life at the expense of others because thats how this society was created.

For a smart guy you sure say a lot of things that don't make any fucking sense.

I sit at 15 - 20 feet from my tv. I don't have to sit at 40 feet because my TV is small enough to watch at a normal distance.
I do notice a difference, it's just that it's so small that I couldn't give a crap. I never watch the HD versions of the channels just because the normal versions are easier to type into the remote.

Not saying I'm an amazing person, I'm saying people who spend tens of thousands of dollars on a TV to get that little extra quality, without donating anything to charity, have no integrity, or are just too stupid to realize how irresponsibly they're spending their money. To think that you can have a well installed and provide clean drinking water for 1500 people for only a thousand dollars, or cure a common disease that causes blindness for only 50 dollars (and in third world countries being blind can mean the difference between life and death, or supporting your family or being a burden to them).

and most of those people who can afford them do donate lots of money to charity and shit
but it doesnt matter because thats unrelated
just because you can have something you work hard for and someone else can't doesn't make you lack integrity thats just baseless judgement
why should you have a tv at all if they dont if you're going to go by that logic

anyway

this display and the likes of like two other vendors
are ushering in 4k to the average consumer who can after saving up for a while save up for a >$1k display

Well yeah, I was talking about those select few who do have the money to throw away and do so only on their own luxuries without thinking about what that amount of money could mean for others.

That's not the same logic. This is the same logic: Why should you have 100 TVs when you can have just one.
Nothing wrong with having luxuries, as long as you're not overdoing it in comparison to what you're donating to charity. Not saying everyone in the first world should donate their hard owned money to charity, but there's a border where luxuries become waste. Buy a 1000 dollar TV without donating anything to charity, fine. But buy a 20.000 dollar TV without thinking about charity, then there's something wrong with the way you think.

if you sit 10-15ft from your 80in tv, then you should definitely notice a HUGE difference, maybe you cant enjoy luxuries because you are blind.

so you're allowed to buy goods that were made by the blood of slave waged workers, only if you later donate to the charity to them later? thats not solving anything, it allows you to feel better about yourself and makes you think you have a consciousness and care about others, when you're actually ignorant to the fact that how these products are made involve the harsh conditions you're trying to help donate to to fix.

i hope you understand that money wont fix problems, and donating doesn't solve anything. we're all no better than the 1% compared to people in actual poverty.

and how do you know those people spending 20k on TVs don't donate to charity? how do you know that their wages aren't so high because they're helping society with their job? you're judging non-existent people to feel better about yourself, and also giving yourself an excuse to not feel jealous of those with the money to buy expensive tvs.

I'm saying if you have so much money that you're mindlessly spending it on overpriced gimmicks, you should think about giving it to charity instead. Buying electronics without components made in China is nearly impossible, but it's not because you can't do anything about the low wages in China that you can't help cure disease in Africa, ya dimwit.
Nearly all products I buy are either locally made, second hand, or fair trade, the only ones that aren't are my electronics and my furniture, on which I spend like maybe 200 euro a year.

I'm not judging non-existent people, I've met many people from many different parts of the world and different social classes and gotten a clear understanding of how money makes most people think, especially if you're born with it. When I was a kid I had two friends with families like this. They just threw away their money on the latest gimmicks and tv-gambling, looking down on the poor and never giving anything to charity (or at least not that I know of, but I'm 99% sure they didn't), and I bet their children won't do so either and so on. It's not like they were outrageously rich or anything, but they did throw an outrageous amount of money away stuff that would be rendered useless to them within a year. And I'm sure there are a lot more families like this out there.

I have no reason to be jealous. In a few years all of my investments will come back to me and I'll have enough to buy me a big house with these expensive luxuries, but I'm not gonna because it's fucking stupid. I'm gonna buy me a plot of land with a small house on it and grow my own crops, become self-sufficient, and keep investing the rest of my money so it grows, and donate it all to charity when I hit 60.

but don't judge others just because they don't

however i like to think
that once you hit a certain point of wealth
like mega millions
then money is soo useless to you that giving most of it away is only logical
because you are spreading happiness where you cant even enjoy it yourself

Like if i had a trillion dollars it would just be plain stupid for me to not share it
because in my entire lifetime there is nothing i could continually buy to run out of money thats within reason
so after getting a nice car
home
tv
ect
lifestyle
then i would definitely give all unnecessary money away

but thats me i have nothing wrong with people that dont give away money

actually, you can help the people in china, if you don't buy the products and request things to change, it happens. more things are starting to be manufactured in the US. thats not being changed with money or donating, its being changed because people are now aware those things are happening, by raising awareness, through technology, the same technology that you consider a shitty gimmick.

people using their money on "gimmicks" or things like gambling doesn't make them any worse of people than you, it just means they enjoy getting their entertainment from something different than you do. them donating that money instead of spending it back into the economy would do nothing to help our society, and barely anything to change other poverty stricken areas.

plus, its not a gimmick, its a straight up technological advancement. you're basically saying DVD is a gimmick.

go ahead and donate it all to charity, it wont change the world. the system is bigger than money.
