I had one for about a year, they're really cool sure, but there is a big sacrifice to be made with the amount of money you're gonna have to spend on the environment and keeping the moisture levels perfect. It is pretty difficult to keep the moisture levels correct, while also keeping the cold blooded reptile warm enough to shed it's skin. Our python ended up getting rot on it's belly from incorrect living conditions even though we tried the best we could to keep the right environment, using lights and spray bottles and humidity/temp monitors. It really is much more of a task than you expect, and because of the skin rot our python stopped eating for a very long time, I'm talking months. The mice population started growing out of control because they would multiply in the small feed container, but the snake never would eat. The smell was atrocious of mouse urine and fecal matter because it was next to impossible to get the mice out of there for cleaning because of them being biters. You don't think about the mice coming into the picture when you want a ball python, but many wont eat frozen mice like ours, so you will be taking care of mice and your python. Anyway so we got the snake some shots for his skin rot, but they seemed to do nothing and were over 100$ on top of the about 500$ we had already spent on the snake. We ended up giving it to petco, and my mom threw the mice in the dumpster.
