I recently told a girl (not my girlfriend) about how Windows has shit vulnerabilities that allow Administrative access to the Webcam without any prompts (just execution is enough)
She didn't believe me, and wanted proof.
Just how many people do you know in real life that know this is possible?
I was quite surprised that the average user does not know this. No wonder they didn't treat the NSA scandals seriously.

in class last night we were talking about google , and no one knew that google tailors results to you specifically and that if 2 people google the same thing results may be different.
the average person doesn't know anything about anything, and they don't care.

Even my non-techy friends know about this. Or at least feel paranoid enough to cover up their webcams when jerking off (one of them even at all times when not using it).
Most webcams have a LED that activates when the webcam is used though. I'm pretty positive that there's no way to disable this LED with software.

Try hosting a local (127.0.0.1) dark comet server and access the webcam, the light stays off.
Now if the LED is hard coded, that's another story.

| plus for the light thing, if people dont know about hijacking webcams, they wont care that the light is on and wont suspect anything suspicious , they will just think its fucked up/broken

that's not a vulnerability, you don't want a promt each time you go in skype :/
you can't just access someone's webcam, you need to get a trojan up and running on that PC before being able to run any kind of service in that PC.
Once you get a trojan that gives your a live feed of the webcam then you can look at it. Mostlikely the light in the webcam will turn on because of activity but if you know which webcam the user has, then you can rewrite the driver and get the image without the webcam light turning on.

| Well I'm not really familiar with RATs or camjacking but I always figured that if I ever had to spy on someone through their webcam, I would send a fake messagebox saying something like 'Webcam driver update has started. Webcam light may turn on and off during installation.'
