So I'm a League of Faggots player who finally beat the tutorial of Dota 2 (the main fucking reason I didn't get into Dota. I fucking hate their tutorial system).

Anyway, I obviously suck at the game, and need some tips. Like, what are some relatively easy champions for beginners, anything I should be aware of, etc..

I know about the in-game guide book that you can read guides from other players (that's neat)

Anyway, if interested, add me on Steam:

Go into a game, and learn every single item and every single hero ability, then start playing the game.

Nature's Prophet is pretty easy to play, imho. There are a ton of valid ways to build him (I favor early midas and all damage jungle build, myself), and you don't really have to worry about team composition (you don't even really need support or a courier). Having the teleport spell is the ultimate convenience, and your ability to split-push can win games from way behind even with crappy pub teammates.

If you're playing pubs, you will probably have to play support a lot - everyone else is going to be picking carry/core type heroes and it's more fun to choose support to win than carry to lose. All the healers are quite good (Witch Doctor, Omniknight, Dazzle, Enchantress, tree, etc) and are also still able to contribute to team fights. My favorite support to play was the Keeper of the Light - his ability to restore mana is amazingly useful, the ability to summon heroes w/ recall is undervalued, blinding light doesn't suck, and max illuminate once killed entire creep waves.

Yar, the in-game guides are awesome. Being shown exactly which items to buy and how to spend skill points simplifies the game tremendously. Playing The Shopkeeper's Quiz can help you learn a lot, as well. You can also learn a ton by watching the pros play (in matches w/ good commentary), so long as you remember that it isn't gospel because they are in a significantly different meta-game. The way the pros ward and hit Roshan is worth noting, though their hero selection and item builds are often only suitable for their team or that specific game.

Now is a great time to start, since the International qualifiers are under way and free to watch.

edit: ps, I'd make a new Steam account just for Dota - one that doesn't have a VAC ban, pictures of penises, or racial slurs strewn about, but that's just me.

My first champion was Juggernaut I believe and I freaking smashed with him. I also looked up for some guides on the interwebs you should do that too.

Thanks for the info. As for the vac ban, they can go suck my dick. I only got banned on MW2 years ago because I got really bored one day, and shall never make the same mistake again. I have no problem admitting that.
I've played Witchdoctor, and love his ult, however I'll try Keeper of the Light.

Sorry, I shouldn't have said anything. I obviously understand or I wouldn't hang out on the CEF. In fact, I despise VAC/punkbuster/anything that feels it needs to run as admin and spy on you. It's just that you'll need to make a lot of friends to maximize your Dota experience, and a lot of folks see a VAC ban and are turned off.

No, don't get me wrong, I understand. However, I already have a lot of friends that I can play DOTA with, and if some people don't want to play because I got VAC'ed some ~3 years ago, then I rather not play with them since they sound like a drama queen.

I'd play with you but you never asked me to.

>Learning to play specific heroes
fucking casuals.
Learn to play roles and once you know what to do on each role, you can learn to use heroes in a couple of minutes.

Carry: Get 9/10 last hits, leave 1/10 for your support if you have any or if you are solo get them all. Most carry heroes are late carry which means that you need to farm quickly and once you get buffed you are the main killing machine of your team

Support: You dont need farm, the farm you get is not for you. Get the courier, sentries, extra tangos if your carry needs them. Often you have debuffs or disables to help your carry get kills too. Think for your team, get wards and make your carry follow you to place them just in case.

Disabler: This are the main initiators, you need a medium amount of farm, just enough to stay on the fight. Usually you just go in stun the target and you and a team mate or the whole team gets the kill.

Pusher: There are a few heroes that have great pushing habilities, the best pushers are kotol and nature's prophet. Pushing means killing the enemy creeps not letting yours die and destroy towers. This heroes can do split pushing, which means that if you see your team engaging in combat and doing well, you should be pushing on a free lane getting the enemy towers.

Ganker: This heroes are kind of like early carry heroes, you need to get your skills quickly and some farm to start moving around the whole map. getting heroes alone in the enemy forest or engaging in other lanes getting early kills.

Learn to support, play support heroes. Lion and Lich are good starters. Follow in-game builds/guides until you've got a good understanding of the heroes and items.
