So many guides on finding base addresses. I cannot find anything to help me, so I'm posting, reluctantly, but ... here it is.

It's simple.
I have a base address. I want to run pointer scanner to search for pointers only starting from my base address.

The primary scan dialog:
* Only allows end offset specification (which is fantastic btw!!)
* "path may only be in this region" has nothing do with base address

The filter dialog, which offers base address filtering, has a bug resulting in ZERO results. No matter the combination of settings in the dialog.

I'm about to use this: *edit* nevermind cannot post links. Someone posted about filtering .ptr binary data, and even shared his code. What a great guy: grasmanek94

.. And manually filter my results, because what I need is just so simple and basic. Surely there is a way to do what I require within Cheat Engine?
over 200 million results and 1 of them, contains my base address. Oi.

Next ce version will have a base filter at the start (it won't really speed it up, but it limits the results)

For now use the structure spider

Fill in the base address in the first column (leave the second one empty if you don't want to do a compare with anything else)

check "pointer must be in range" and ill in the destination address

And fill in the max level (e.g 4 or 5)

Then do a scan. With luck it may find it.

But why do you need that one specific base address? There are multiple paths to the same address, all of which are correct. (e.g I can walk from my kitchen to your house, or I can walk from my garage to your house. Both are known and valid base locations)

Also, are you sure that base address is even in the pointerscan results ? e.g if it's a different version of the game, the first thing that changes is the base address
Click on the base address column of the pointerfile and wait for the sorting to finish (don't use the desktop for pointerfile storage, it'll look ugly)
Then try to find it by scrolling down and up, or look in the folder for a .ptr.#### where #### is the address you're looking for

Indeed, I don't "need" the pointer path to require the base address, but it helps.
I have a routine down for when the game patches, takes less than a minute to find the new base, and update all my pointers (another thing I want to resolve, but eh that's another topic). So my table always contains valid pointers, with very little effort required to fix broken ones.

I ran the spider scan, and have found results, little over 100. It's exactly what I needed. I haven't yet tried the column sort alternative, but I was wondering if that worked, click-able column titles - lol I should have known.

Seriously, thank you for the help, and I've read a few articles regarding the spider alternative, I just wasn't using it properly, so I do apologize for the reiteration.
