Cyber bullying is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You don't want to read hateful messages on Facebook? Block them, or better yet get off of Facebook.
Cyberbullying DOES happen, ex Amanda Todd, but most of the time what is considered "Cyber bullying" is pure bullshit.

Not at all.
My school has just deployed a rule where any bullying/harassment/sexual harassment/cyber bullying/fight that happens in or out of school on the first offense results in expulsion.

| Facebook is an integral part of the younger generation, and doing something like ignoring it or blocking people can make them feel ostracized from their community, its the same as telling someone being bullied in real life to just 'transfer to another school' or report it to a teacher, when typically nothing will happen and they will continue to get bullied, whats worse with cyberbullying is that not many people will take it seriously, and it isn't as extreme enough as in real life to get a child to transfer, so they will be stuck in the same school with the kids that hate them and will have no way to stop the hate without becoming further detached from the eco system of their social life. |

Blocking somebody on Facebook shouldn't make you feel ostracized. And so what if it does? Should a parent always let their child have the latest iPhone so she doesn't feel left out from her peers? I don't think so.

This is very true, however, there is a good reason why cyber bullying isn't taken seriously by many people. It's because it's turned into a cliche now. Now if anybody says anything negative to somebody on the internet it is considered cyber bullying to my school and many other schools. There has been movies made that make you want to hurl, and the programs that travel to schools to talk to children and teens in the masses about bullying. They all nail this idea into people's brains that cyber bullying is a minor offense by relaying the message that something as small as commenting "that colour of hair doesn't suit you" on a Facebook profile picture is cyber bullying, when it is not. It is the media and schools fault that people don't think cyber bullying is important.

My school implemented an invasion of privacy by checking kid's phones to see if they were cyber bullying. I wonder how long that lasted, since I'm sure it broke the law.
