How do I cheat?

I have windows 8, and am running CE v. 6.3. Every time I try to activate a cheat it simply freezes for like 3 seconds then does not activate. How can I fix this?

I was running hotspot shield, because it was recommended in order to avoid getting banned on a online game. I think it may be related, but somebody else has used it.

The version of your game must be the same as the one the table was made for
If it's a browser game, there is a high chance it's outdated
