| Is there another way other than the tutorial "changed value" scan version of finding out what bit of code gets written to when a certain key is pressed? For example some keys that only do the thing while they are being pressed and stop doing it when you unpress them. Thanks

| Change/Unchanged is your best bet, without knowing the value. You can try increased/decreased. You can also try searching for '0' during unpressed, then, increased or changed during pressed. Sometimes, the value can be '1' when pressed (3F800000), but I've also seen it as 255 (000000FF) and similar etc. It varies, depending on the game. Search for all value types if you're unable to yield any workable results.

You can also try ultimap to see which codes are active when you press the key. Or you could just try to hook the api that is checking the keypress.
But either way, you will probably have a huge list of codes. Will you filter out 100K codes and find the one you are looking for? If you do it like this, you can also try changing random values and see if you find something that is useful. It's too much data.
