Cheat Engine

So I'm running this game called A.R.E.S, it's a sidescroller shooter, and in the game you pick up bits of stuff you can use to make other stuff, health packs, grenades, upgrading your weapons, etc. However, I got one of the values to stick at 999, and then I tried to do another value (another material) and it just keeps going down to the original value it was before I modified it. If I select it to be active, it just keeps scrolling up and down and eventually makes the game crash.

I read a thing the game was made in some microsoft XNA thing so that's why normal CE won't work with it, but I got that one value to work and tried replicating what I did with that but it doesn't work. Any help?

Also found a trainer for it possibly but ALL of my virus scanners popped up and said it was bad, so... nope on that one.
