Was rocking some crysis 3... then heard funny noise from my case. Naturally... i leaped off the chair, launching it across the room and knocking >2< people down, slid sideways near my case smashing against the wall and pulled the power cable out of psu. It was very epic and people present were left with their jaws on floor. All real nice... except upon examination and figuring what the noise was...
I found that for some odd reason all of a sudden fan is hitting cover now.
Now fan itself is held on a motor by magnet so its not exactly fixated or secured. It feels solid... but I guess not solid enough. The cover grill is metal so noise is severe and fan not being able to spin properly in psu is reaaaaly bad.
So any ideas >_>? ripped a gpu out while I tinker with this because cables etc get in the way. Going to toss some pics for better idea.

edit: Well here are some pics. the propeller(entire top part) in the fan is not secured, I didn't feel like turning it all off just to pull the fan out lol. It got a magnet ring on the inside of the cap with blades so it sticks to motor fairly well but I guess it lost its touch today.
As you can see on last pic the grill is made from metal and slightly bent inwards... so I can bend it out a bit.
Or as a last ditched attempt I can throw the cover out entirely. Going to need to put screws back in to hold the motor portion in place though. As you can see from case shots there's a filter there for psu intake so... cover isn't really deeded... but it would be somewhat odd.

How is the case dust cover touching the fan exactly? How does it get past fan cover on the PSU?

Not the dust cover lol. The psu metal cover. The top part of fan itself the blades are held on a magnet ring inside the cap that sticks to motor. And when it faces down it slides a bit down and starts hitting the metal protector. Its the yellow thing laying next to psu Razz
Point is the blades and cap aren't secure by anything past magnets inside the cap. Theres a pin that keeps it straight but its just a pin. Razz It does make it extremely quiet though since the only thing that spins are blades themsels and nothing else, motor just juggles magnets and gets it to spin.
Today it decided to scratch its metal cover. If just put cover back and hold it in my hands and apply a little pressure to the middle it starts scratching it.
If it was secured I wouldn't have this issue but then again... it would be a lot noisier.

Strike!

Aside that various other solutions:
-put the yellow protector upside down, so it'd be slightly bent outward. Plus in that case the smooth side of the metal disk would be on the fan side = less noise if they touch.
-add washers on the protector's screws to increase the fan-protector distance.
-Is that the blades that hit the protector, or just the circular central part? In the latter case I guess you could err... sand it down (not sure it's the right translation, I mean use an abrasive to decrease its thickness).
-Replace the fan if you've got dead PSUs lying around.

And well finally, that protector is just to prevent idiots from putting their fingers in the fan, and cables too, so if you know what you're doing you can ditch the protector.

Heh the beauty of that fan lies in the fact that the only moving part is basically the cap with blades. There is nothing to produce noise. Anyway if you look at the metal cover its slightly bent inward i bent it back outwards because psu stand has a lot of space between where its held and bottom of the case/sliding filter. Now its not scratching anything. Razz
Putting washers in would have been a good idea too tbh. It barely touched it because cap with blades isn't fixed it constantly got pushed back up so it was periodic too lol.
Anyway problem solved.
But this little leap of faith isn't going to get forgotten soon. -_-
You know a man loves his computer when at the slightest abnormal noise from case he leaps and pulls power cable out.

It sounds like it got bent or the fan is falling lower than it should. May want to consider a new psu or to RMA this one.
