I just upgraded mobo cpu and ram and now when I turn my comp on when it shows the windowed loading it freezes blue screens for a millisecond and goes back to bios screen. The blue screen is saying like run chkdsk/f and is acting like my hd is corrupted I think. Did I really do that while installing my upgrade or did I just do something wwrong[/quote]

If you're using a pre-existing hdd in the computer that you installed the new mobo, cpu, and memory in then the Master Boot Record (MBR) is jacked up. It is trying to boot to the old MBR in order to boot which it gets from the system board information. If you have the OS CD you can go into Recovery Console and do a fixmbr and walk through the steps to create a new MBR on the computer. It should be noted that this only works with WinXP. I'm also including the methods for Vista, 7, and 8.
Windows XP = HERE
Windows Vista, 7, and 8 = HERE
Let me know if this helps.

Now when i try to install windows i get setup was unable to create a new system partition. I cant seem to get past it at all. No idea what to do.

What version of Windows are you trying to install?
Did you create a new partition during the initial setup process?

Yes i made a primary partition on my hd using disk check and made it active and its my primary and win 7 | What? Why are you fuzzling around with manual commands? Just throw the DVD or USB in and do a fresh install with the UI.
And you probably mean diskpart, not disk check?

I was wondering the same thing but forgot the mention it. Use the GUI when you boot to the Win7 CD to your advantage when making the partitions. It eliminates alot of potential error and also allows you to make sure you're setting it right.

Are you guys for real? You have to reformat. Windows rejects hardware changes like that. Its lucky if you change mobo and it doesn't do this.
Just reformat, its the actual answer to this.

Really? There are other alternatives than just resorting to reformat and reinstall. Most people I've ever met want to keep their data somewhat but usually will have a backup just in case. And the fixmbr method will work for a new systemboard install as long as it can be ran. In his case though, it would appear that more extreme measures will need to be taken.....
sheesh Hero..... |
Finally borrowed a friends dvd drive and installed windows clean install and got it done so i am good now and enjoying my new build. Took a lot of work though jeez.
