A friend of me got a new laptop and doesn't need her old netbook anymore.
I told her I wanted to buy it but we don't want to rip each other off, so I don't know how much I should offer her, and she doesn't know how much she should charge me.

She bought it at around 300 dollars, but has been using it for about three and a half years. So the battery only lasts half as long as it used to.
It has 1 GB of RAM and a 1.66 GHz processor (Intel Atom).

So, what do you think would be a fair price?

I own one for school, and let me tell you; it's awful. It's so slow it hurts, actually.

I'd buy it for $20.
$40 tops.
I'd then strip it, get a rasberry pi and build a custom netbook using the case/keyboard/screen etc.

Or just put a linux distro on it

I don't see the point in stripping a weak computer to build a weaker computer.

Rasberry pi $35
Extra USB hub $5
16GB of virtualized flash ram $10

It would be loads faster than the processor already in there.

+40$ you have to pay to buy it in the first place, youd be losing money
itd be a fun project but if someone just wants a deal on a cheap netbook then its a terrible idea

@evil; you'd have to put a linux distro on it, rasberry pi cant do windows (and who even uses the other form of OS's)

No no, I meant put a linux distro on the existing netbook without stripping everything.

oh ok yeah, it is pointless to strip it and you could just do that, and itd work better for anything that you'd need it for

Yep. No clue why he thinks the pi is faster.

Yep. No clue why he thinks the pi is faster.

The difference in CPU power in a low end computer like that is hardly important, since all you'll be able to do either way is browse the web/watch movies/write shit/code, which the pi can handle fine, except it also has a gpu which supports blu ray quality.
I'm just saying it's what I'd do, and yes for a fun project, I wouldn't expect this thing to be amazing either way.

You claimed it would be "loads faster"

Also, unless you carried around a flash drive or external, you couldn't store blue ray rips

Also even if it can display blue ray quality, the resolution is 1024x600
