so you're making a server for 2 people, and only you 2 will be playing it? you are in the same room, so you can use LAN?
and you are asking what "kind of server" you should use?
I don't really understand what you mean by kind of server.

How do you use LAN? |
Join your Singleplayer world, press escape, click "Open to LAN". Then tell your friend to go to the multiplayer server list and it should pop up.

Minecraft is a game that is developed by one person for a very long time, and is updated VERY little now even though there is a studio, and even the updates add very minor things
WoW is an MMO with Millions of people playing and the game is updated VERY often with new content that is challenging, until you've done the hardest raids on hard mode you haven't completed the game, and with all the people playing it adds a sense of challenge, there is no endgame or challenge to minecraft, and everything that you would want to do in the game can be done in a couple months (special buildings you want, towns, multiplayer cities and ideas). It doesnt matter how shit the game is, that doesn't effect its long term playability, TOR is shit but it died because there is no end game, games without endgame cant last long, thats why sand box games are always beaten around 30 hours and not much left is in them because they are limited. The reason people keep playing games like WoW is because its updated with new things to complete, and the reason people play mostly singleplayer games for a very long time is replayability and grinding such as mass effect with all its different dialogue choices, deus ex with its various play styles to complete the game, and demon/dark souls because of new game + |

You failed to take into consideration the people who just started playing the games. Doesn't matter how long you can play the game if you just got it... unless you're the kind of person who won't play a game unless it's long/short.

| it was implied to 'still' be playing by you saying 'people still play WoW' as in, they've been playing for a while and even though it was said to be shit they CONTINUED to play it, very little people now 'get into WoW' the majority of players and people already know about the game, and the same could be said about minecraft, everyone knows about it |
