Wouldn't you have to be sitting in exactly the right seat for that to work?
It sounds like a precision intercept point of the right and left eye images, so afaik the two would only cross at an exact spot in the room.
Even if you're in the right seat, being too tall or having eyes really far apart can mess with it, if it's really what they're saying.
