Complex numbers. I'm not sure why...I just like doing operations using them. Might try using them in some encryption and fractal programs.
Also, by playing with them, I basically made a support class in java to do operations and handle them. So I was able to code up a Julia and Mandelbrot drawer trivially. Was a nice little learning experience. Right now I'm just playing around using 2D L systems, treating the points as complex numbers, multiplying those by their conjugates to get a "real" number, then using those real numbers to effect the original L system.
Also getting the planning done for BoxeLife. I want to go into it as clearheaded and prepared as possible because I want it to be a legitimate opensource project that is clean and easy for others to collab with.

Last time I dealt with maths was when I was 16.
Have fun.

I'll be dealing with them for quite some time. Just a hobby level programmer right now with basic Java knowledge, but I start college in August. Going for a Mathematics and CS dual major with honors. Then looking out of state for graduate school for a Software Engineering degree. The CS bachelors will be of software engineering concentration, but isn't a Software Engineering degree unfortunately.

Haha, I have a love hate relationship with math. My grades and everything point toward science as my best subject, but I just love math, and specifically, the uses of math concepts. It's the ability to be right and show that you are, by way of the currently known universe, right.

I have a hate hate relationship with maths. I got Cs on everything and got out of there as fast as I could.

Normally Cs and Bs. I never did a page of hw though, all my tests were As or high Bs. I was one of two kids who my teacher would just allow to sleep in class.

put your project on github or some source sharing website this time. this will allow others to contribute to it but will also encourage you to use good programming practice since you know your code will potentially be under the scrutiny of far better programmers.
there is no point in writing bad code first then saying 'oh no it's too horrible to share'. you won't get better that way. it is furthermore a waste of opportunity since you have the rare chance that you have people prepared to code review your project when it doesn't actually matter yet

Yea. I'll start doing this with any new projects most likely. See my reply to the other thread.

| also idk why you would bother writing your own code to support complex numbers when there exists apache common math

To learn the operations and make something low fat and suitibale for my needs.
Plus it's easier to type ComplexNum c = new ComplexNum(1,-1);
then be able to do c.add(x); Or c.square();

Ah, didn't see that lol.
Eh, either way, I needed a touch up on complex numbers, probably good I went through coding the class even if I don't use it. It was a nice review at the very least.

What has complex numbers let you do that normal numbers havent? I am interested, since I have never explored the area, and am wondering how it might serve as a tool.
