I'd say Single Player unless you have friends. Or you can join up with some randoms and power level and whatnot.
I'm not entirely sure how the Diablo 3 online works, haven't played since the beta.

Torchlight 2 online is flawless though, I'd like to make it clear how much better Torchlight 2 is compared to Diablo 3... even more so considering the huge price difference.

cant you make a multiplayer character and play in a game by yourself, if you can I see no reason to do the single player at all
