I would like to modify minesweeper(winmine.exe) so that I don't even have to use my trainer for it to work. I'm not some nolife who thinks that this would be the best thing in the world, but it would be a learning experience.
So, I got the address of code that makes the timer tick and the hex I want to change it to to disable it. I decided to use XVI32, and I went to the address. The memory was different, and so, I could not hex-edit it. Any suggestions?

You have to find the correct offset to reach the desired location. To do that, in CE goto View>Show Module Address in memory viewer and copy the offset.

| I modded it, but when I check for the memory I modified in cheat engine, it shows that I haven't changed it... does it HAVE to be done at runtime?
