you will have a great time at defcon if you are interested in currently trending technology, since most of everything there is making the trending technology do things it wasn't designed for. so for me, that'd be a yes.

QuakeCon is awesome... well, if you have friends. Tons of awesome rigs to check out, like seriously the coolest computers I've ever seen.
Largest annual gathering of gamers. And they always announce something awesome and have demos for upcoming titles.
Not to mention booth babes, contests, food, and various items available for purchase. And free internet.
God tier LAN party.
The best part of it all is that entry is free.

I've never been big on gathering in a room with a bunch of overweight gamers admiring one an others computers nor am I really a fan of comics. I'll most likely only attend Defcon & some sort of Anime convention.
