It is quite clear that since I am unaware of how the tool is meant to me used that I am unable to make a fully functional tool.

If you could (or someone that knows) please answer these questions to help me out.

1. Why must all of the wheel be visible at all times?

2. What exactly is this called really?

3. What is it used for?

All wheels must be visible because once lined up, you can see the pattern for the scale and chords. In the attachment you can see me making F Mixolydian. The F is lined up with I which is then lined up with Mixolydian. The chords then follow the rest of the roman numerals and the maj/min markings. So the chords are

I: Fmaj, II: Gmin, III: Adim, IV: Bbmaj, V: Cmin, VI: Dmin, VII: Ebmaj

Then those check marks serve to give you a scale that can be played over any of the above chords.

so you see, if you block out the rest of the circle, it looses its functionality. Simply take the first one you made and divide the rings into equal areas so the lines will line up like in my physical version.

It's purpose is to set you up in one of the 7 church modes. It has no name.
