"Crafted Performance
With 3x the performance of previous generations1, the GeForce GTX 560 Ti lets you crank up the gaming realism." -http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-geforce-gtx-560ti-us.html
I don't see how that statement is true.
As for your problem, both cards don't differ much in performance. Here's the benchmarks:
http://www.videocardbenchjoe.net/high_end_gpus.html *replace joe with mark*
GTX 560 : 2,770
HD 6870 : 2,831
I recommend you look into these:
NVIDIA 3D Vision
NVIDIA PhysX
NVIDIA Optimus
NVIDIA CUDA
AMD Eyefinity Technology
AMD App Acceleration

HD6870>GTX 560
HD6950>GTX 560Ti
For Nvidia all you get is PhysX, you can grab a nice and powerful ATi card as primary and a cheap Nvidia card to use as dedicated PhysX.
