As far as the demo goes, this looks like a crazy awesome game. Forget if I already asked this, do I actually need to play DAO in order to play DAII? Because I'm thinking about pre ordering DAII without playing the first one.

I don't think DA:O affects DA II. I suggest you do play DA:O though, since the story is awesome and you will understand DA II's story better.
