No point to the thread, just thought it was interesting/discussion worthy.

Quote:
A few weeks ago Google unveiled a prototype of a new Chrome based netbook to the world. Truly a computer for the Internet age, several interesting design choices were made with this netbook, including the decision to remove the Caps Lock key from the keyboard, replacing it with a key that inserts a random pictures of a cat when pressed. Since then, the main nerds on the Internet have been discussing the implications of this; whether having less people screaming on the internet was worth the economic devastation felt by the increased time it would take for people to type acronyms.

It will not be successful. In programming, it is good practice to keep certain things like constants in all caps, and it would be tedious if we had to hold the shift key.

I'm fairly sure Google's chrome netbooks are web only, as in, no programming will take place on it.

What I meant is that it wont revolutionize the keyboard industry and cause all keyboards to remove the caps lock key.

I'm still using an old IBM keyboard from 1998 btw lol...

caps lock is pretty much useless. I haven't had to use it for years (and the residue that has settled on top of it proves it)

as for programming: That's why you only type in the first 2 or 3 characters of a constant and then press ctrl+space and select what you mean. Or else just copy/paste from the docs

The chrome OS is meant to run a shit ton of web apps that replace apps on the computer. So you would be able to program, you'd just be doing it in the browser like everything else you do on the OS.

Touche. What I meant was when you need to create constants yourself. For the average script kiddie, it's no problem. But for serious programmers it's common practice to have a good set of constants and keep them in capital letters.
