Just built a new computer and I need Windows 7 x64 (full version). Anyone know the best way of going about this?
I have an MSDN subscription through my work where I can download it... I'm just uneasy due to the unknown ramifications.
College students get Ultimage upgrade for $19, but its an upgrade and I'd have to buy/install full Vista, then the upgrade.
Anyone got any methods of getting a legal copy for a decent price?!@

yea, but my work uses volume licensing and i guess shit would hit the fan if they got audited.. that is all. (MSDN subscriptions are 100% for development purposes only. You are not suppose to use them for anything else). Just like academic MSDN subscriptions are for labs/school ONLY.

if i remember correctly, it has to be upgraded meaning you have to have a "legit" copy install before using the MSDN

| Don't use a non-legit OS. The OS is EVERYTHING, and there are plenty fake ones containing keyloggers etc. And since it's in the OS core, AVs are useless.

Using a non-legit OS is as "dangerous" as using a non-legit game. Usually it's the original installation files but with a crack added.

You took the words out of my mouth. Although I certainly don't promote "non-legit" software, there is hardly an argument that it is dangerous.
It is unfortunate that so many people believe this common misconception. It is similar to the argument that wikipedia contains false information because it can be edited by anyone. That's simply not the case. Non-legit software is made because of people rebelling against the outrageous prices and ridiculous nature of control that software companies impose.
Sometimes, non-legit software is actually better than legit. Again, I don't promote it. But as an example, I own a copy of GTA 4 for PC. However, the legit version has glitches that prevent certain command lines from functioning that enable better graphics for those who have less-capable hardware (which the non-legit version does not).

Windows XP is outdated and bad, just bad. It utilizes ram terribly, and is very very unstable compared to Windows 7. Windows 7 is the best operating system Microsoft has and probably will ever make. The next OS they make is prob' gonna be another Windows Vista.
Protip: Most people who say Windows 7 sucks is because they can't afford it or don't know how to get it.

| I'm not saying that Win 7 or Vista suck, no - they are propably very good, just that there are a lot of games i want to play that doesn't run on them. But as it seems, i have to get some better PC with win 7 to play some newer games soon.
