Currently I have this:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=15055292

What might be in issue, however, is that I'm planning on running this on a 400W Corsair PSU. Do you guys think that'll work?

Also, if you have any suggestions for changes, please feel free to say so.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130295 - MoBo alternative, less expensive but w/ better chipset. Also leaves room for further expandability.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103656 - Still a PII X4 but with one less multi (14x compared to 15x), doesn't really matter as the motherboard is almost guaranteed to hit 300 HTT (286*14=4004)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146748 - $5 cheaper, 'nuff said. Mushkin actually makes pretty good memory sticks AND thermal paste.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500173 - Try to chip off as much as possible to get the 460 768mb, much better than the 5770. If you can't, then just leave it, as it is not that essential.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030 - 400w seems to be just barely enough for your build (~300-350w under load), best to get another PSU with more headroom. Number of PCI-E power connectors should also be noted. (Review: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=317192)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811233062 - cheaper case

GTS 450 is worse than the 5770. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gts-450-gf106-radeon-hd-5750,2734-8.html

Given that the Caviar Blue and the F4 are the same price, the F4 would be more appealing due to the larger capacity and similar performance.

Actually even with the larger cache, the read/write/latency (+.03ms) times are the same performance wise.

Also with the drivers being matured now, the performance compared to the hd 5770 is nominal.

I took some of your suggestions, and considered some others. I think I put together a really good one here. I found a different case (saw it looking at the NZXT one) and video card (featured deal on video card page, 460 for 159 and 139 after rebate).
Revised:
https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=15055292

It goes over the limit, but there's $45 back in rebates there. I think this is a ton better.

Dear god don't get wintec x.x that is shit tier company, heat spreaders are not needed imo. Everything else looks good, aside from you are going to need at least 550watts to power that system.

We can't see your revised wishlist!
And how much exactly can your friend spend?

None of the setups here has a DVD writer...

Yeah ignore the one in that post, it's the same link that's in OP.

I updated the build a bit. I'm quite proud at what I've done with it. Check link in OP for the list.

I stepped down from a phenom II to an athlon II, I figured that it wouldn't be too bad of a move for the $30.

Found a much cheaper motherboard, $40 cheaper.

I switched from a 460 1GB SE to a 460 768MB, as he isn't going to be playing in very high resolutions (I believe his monitor is 1440x900), so I figured that it would increase performance given the circumstances, plus it chipped off about $40.

I went for a case that was $10 cheaper, due to it being on sale for $90 cheaper than it's usual $140 pricepoint. Seems like a really good case too.

Main reason in doing this was because I was losing certainty that 400W would be sufficient. With all the money I saved from that, I was able to include a 500W modular PSU.

Please leave some feedback.
