What do you mean by "Dead Socket" ?

And does this build fit together with each other? Did I get all the technical aspects right?

Memory - If you want to be a badass, get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224
Otherwise, just get this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231225

That processor/mobo you've selected out seems fine. As for the heatsink, everybody says that on the feedback page of every i7 review thing. Just don't use a stock heatsink, easy as that. In fact, you could easily get away with using a stock heatsink. A bunch of people who leave reviews on things on newegg are just technophiles who absolutely can't stand it if a single part of their computer ever runs above 45C (my graphics card idles at 70C!). Still, it would be pretty nice to get a different heatsink on that, so just go with something simple and relatively inexpensive like the Hyper 212.

Case - Overpriced IMO; don't bother with a case over $60-70. I personally wouldn't pay more than like $40 for a case, but that's just my personally opinion.

PSU - Woah there buddy, no need to have a 1000W. Your system should be more than sufficient on 750W.

Also, you're missing a video card. Since you run Linux primarily, I'm going with the assumption you don't play too many games, in which case you should go with something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133304
However, if you do play games extensively, you can go with something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130568

I am dual booting with Win 7, I do moderate gaming. Linux is the primary OS though, and I want something that has good 3D rendering. (Mostly for Compiz and effects and such)
I like that case b/c it has huge ass cooling fans, so I could get away with using stock heatsinks. : D ty for your input I will prob get the bottom one. Should go good with Asus Mobo and i7 cpu

Well nVidia's the way to go in the first place because you're using Linux (AMD is notorious for having horrible open-source driver support), and nVidia's also the way to go if you're doing 3D rendering and shit, especially fermi cards (the lower one). Yeah definitely go with the 460, you won't be disappointed.

Can you find a PSU compatable with my parts, and one that offers a good stable supply of power? I can't seem to find a good one. I don't think that ram will work with the Asus Motherboard. It's standard is 2000.

NVM found a PSU ( I Think ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

Found good ram!
