Text for example. I was just going over Wikipedia and started wondering if the text I copied would be saved somewhere.

Not that I'm plagiarizing or anything. Just curious.

If you have Microsoft Word open it saves it to a clip board I think.

Yeah, I'm aware of the clipboard, but I'm wondering there's something else that would keep track of it because I know my clipboard isn't out.

If what you copy with ctrl + v is saved for you to paste somewhere later, where is that saved text/image coming from?

NO.

Highlight this text and do ctrl-c then ctrl-v on your address bar.

"Hi, ctrl-C is copy!"

Would it be possible for a program to retrieve the information from the cache to find out what's been copied?

Not after something else has been written over it.
