Problem 1 - My PC has a lot of trouble when I start it up. It started off fine then a few months back it started not allowing me to run anything in admin for the first few minutes now when I start it up I have a black screen (no icons/taskbar buy still able to move mouse and open things with task manager).
Problem 2 - When playing certain games my computer will go into an irreversible power saving mode. The games include all of the DoW's, Sam + max, tales of monkey island, Flat out and others. I have to restart my computer to fix this (Which wouldn't be too bad if I didn't have the first problem.
I have windows Vista.
So if you need any more information just ask.
One quick final question - Would I be able to install Windows 7 while keeping everything or is it best to start new?
I know I'm being a pain but any help is appreciated. |

It's best to start new, it always is. If there are some particular files (pictures, music, savegames) you want to keep, throw them onto a flash drive (or an external hard drive if necessary), then reformat and install Win7.
There's a thing called Windows Rot, and basically it just means that over time, thousands, probably millions of tiny little tweaks made to system files keep adding up, causing a "decay" of the operating system. It's inevitable if you're a user who frequently installs new programs and does actual stuff on a computer. _________________

I thought that may be the case.
I'll just put everything I want to keep on my J drive and wipe my c drive and install windows 7. Thanks. |

Yes. | Is it used just for storage? _________________

Yes, it has my steam games and anime on, that's all. It's also internal if that makes any difference whatsoever. |
