It's fun but i fail so hard. Repeatedly hiding in cave. Too afraid to fight monsters...

Make land mines if you're that paranoid. It's really useful to farm monsters. Gives you items you cannot normally get form common items.

how to make land mines?

Make TNT
Make a pressure plate
Dig a 3 block hole
place the TNT on the second empty block
place the pressure plate on top of the TNT (Top empty block)

The creeper or monster will activate the TNT VIA pressureplate, which will then make him and the TNT drop down to the 3rd empty hole making escape impossible, and then he will explode violently.

Both of those are fucking stupid.

TNT is annoying as fuck to get.
TNT requires 5 Gunpowder.
Creepers drop gunpowder, usually only one per Creeper.

That being said, if only one creeper falls into your trap, which is what will usually occur, you'd only get one Gunpowder at the expense of 5.

Lava moats effectively destroy the loot the monster drops, if I recall correctly, plus it's a bitch when you either fall in or accidentally touch.

Best option is to build a drowning trap. Humans can swim out of water, and the water doesn't damage you or the loot.

This is the easiest possible drowning moat you could build. There are more effective ones out there, if you have the time and resources.
