achieve this photo effect? What camera would I need to use and what would I need to do to the picture?

It isn't really an effect. It's just a pretty good camera with a an anti-glare lens (We learned the proper name in chemistry yesterday but I have forgotten :/)

Oh, and don't forget the cute girl.

I feared it so. I'm not a photographer so I don't want to spend money on a really good camera.

Get a good picture (doesn't necessarily have to be a good camera, just a picture you think is nice) and you the sponge tool on Photoshop, along with the sharpen tool.

It's photoshop, yes the cam took a good picture, but she was added after the pic was taken. So was the sky, you can tell for 1 she has no shadow on the ground, the shadows on the fence mean she is facing the sun, yet her left knee casts a shadow to her right, the shadows on the fence fall right to left. Still a nice pic.

I believe there are two lightsources, or at least one cut to two by an obstacle behind the camera, most likely a house.

You're a douche, and he's most likely wrong.
Because professional photoshoots don't bring their own lighting to create desired effects.

Because professional photographers are not allowed to have relationships. Anyways photography isn't exactly rocket surgery. I spent a few weeks helping out with the school production and I learned a surprising amount of things to do with lighting (and sound)

For when brain surgery and rocket science are not demanding enough.
