I'm playing minecraft (the free weekend thingy) and I'm confused and was wondering if some here could help me. Why does my pickaxe keep breaking, and how do I identify like, objects? (say wood, coal)

pick axes break after a number of uses
just like in real life
use a better material for a longer lasting pick axe
wood is brown with lines in it
coal is a little black circle
just go to minepedia and search up the name, but I think its down

How the dicks do you not understand this game? Honestly, it's simple as fuck.
Tools/weapons/armor have durability, and when that durability runs out they break. And whenever you see a block, you'll know what it is. Smooth stone is everywhere, when you break it you get cobblestone, which is only made by water/lava contact and you'll only find it at the contact between water/lava and in dungeons. Anywhere else you see it, you placed it there. Sand is sand-colored and next to water. Dirt is brown. Grass is dirt but with green on the top. Coal looks like smooth stone but has black dots on it. Iron is the same but with tannish dots on it. Gold has gold dots on it, and diamond has blue dots on it. And honestly, where the fuck do you think wood is. Where the dicks do you see wood in real life? Oh...maybe something like a TREE?

I knew that wood was in trees, I'm getting confused just identifying whats what. I'm just getting used to this.
