I actually have no idea how it works, never bothered to find out. It means how long left the furnace has before it runs out or some shit. Empty is empty, full is full.

Yeah, but there's no coal in sight, finding that is going to be the problem.

Oh fuck, I got lost when looking for coal (found a few blocks in a nearby mine. It's getting dark, but luckily I found some shelter and had materials enough on me to build a workbench, a door and a torch.
