So, I am looking to purchase a new TV.

I have concluded that a 32" LCD will be just right for the application.

I looked through the selection of TV's at my local stores, and there is a shitload of mumbo-jumbo I don't have a clue about.

It will be used for: Digital TV and DVD. No gaming consoles, no Blu-Ray.

So I have a few questions:

What does resolution have to do with quality of picture? I see some are 1920x1080 and others are 1366x768.

What amount of Hz is sufficient?

What really matters when buying a TV?

I found this really useful in terms of buying a new tv for X and Y use.
http://carltonbale.com/1080p-does-matter
because it actually make sense
Also, 3D and 120hz/240hz are more of gimmick shit, unless you want to wear a pair of glasses onto another pair of glasses and rewatch the same 3D shit over and over again
contrast ratio doesn't mean shit also.

Ok who the hell watches tv from almost 15 feet away? Who watches from 10 feet for that matter?

no, 120hz makes sense for movies.

60 / 24 = 2.5
120 / 24 = 5

That's the entire point of the article. It's saying that you aren't gettting the full thing out of 720p unless you're 20+ feet away.

I do.

It's better for your eyes, and it looks better.

no point.

movies end up with an odd frame every so often at 60hz, this is fixed by 120hz.

i'm not sure that 240hz tvs can actually output 240 frames a second. i'm pretty sure that past 120hz, it's just black magic.
