Just tell them you rather not belong to a mass that is really nothing more than a claque for a deity that is either a sadist, or impotent to the cause of creating a better stimulus for religion.

And if they don't understand a word of that, then you know why they rely on god instead of themselves.

My Mother isn't like that.
She says her reason for wanting to send me to Indiana was a joke, she thinks I need some time with my out-of-state family.
