So the hero in this story was on the evil side, after a day of particularly high levels of douchebaggery, a high ranking moralfag dame contacted him via PM, somehow that turned into slight flirting and after like 2 weeks of talking our hero officially left his faction and joined the Good Guys & Gals™ to 'be with this girl'. They did a lot of shit together for at least a month, kept chatting and even talking over Ventrilo into the morning hours, quite romantic, it would seem. After this month our hero 'asked her out', which in that MUD's terms was ingame marrying her, she was all excited etc. and agreed immediately. That's when the dude picked up contact with his old guild again, he had a plan.
First things first, there was a specific plant that would leave huge pollen you could enchant with a fire rune, effectively making it a proximity mine that sets people on fire.
Secondly, If you ever played classic/D&D based RPGs, I am sure you ran across a Bag of Holding some time. In that MUD, when you put a Bag of Holding into another Bag of Holding, they would just explode in your stupid face and spill their contents all over the place.
This was his plan, to fuck with his own marriage.
The marriage was to be in ~3 weeks, enough time get to know everybody in the Moralfag Order for real and put up a generous bounty for those pollen.
He had his friends at his old/evil order pick up those pollen and enchant all of them, then stash them all into a Bag of Holding someone donated to this cause, and handpicked a good friend of his to play a special role in his plan. This MUD also had items, or more like disguise kits, that could make you appear as someone else (with his/her consent, the disguise was safe from failing), and another kit that could make you "Anonymous".
So by the time the the wedding day came, his bounty brought in over 3-fucking-thousand of those pollen, and it went down as I will describe it now.
The MUD allowed the groom to write a script, of what he and the priest would say.
So he had his good friend disguise as our hero of this story, and patiently waited in the back ranks (near the only entrance/exit) of the church as an Anonymous character, along with about a dozen others from the order of evil.
The script went fine for the first two minutes, then at the climax of the ceremony, where he'd ask her if she wanted to be his wife, the friend is disguise went, "...I call chain lightning". Mind you, that church was huge, and there were a good 200 people in it.
The spell hit the priest, killing him and a few low levels standing nearby instantly, the disguise was off, the girl had no idea what the fuck was going on.
The Anonymous characters dropped their disguise and starting killing the fuck out of everybody, with the rest of the Evil Order coming through the only gate there is and blocking it, Sparta style. After a few minutes of carnage, people somehow got word of it, and good-doers and people from the good order were rushing to stop this, that's when our hero yelled something I can't remember (Allahu Ackbar would be fitting, though) and put a Bag of Holding into that other Bag of Holding that had those 3000 magically charged pollen in it.
Many people were dropped off the server because the server had priorities with processing, so after ~5 minutes the whole thing was over and there were those fire proximity mines even in regions far, far away.
It is believed that somewhere in the middle of the battle in the church, the would-be wife logged off.
But first, back to the server, it actually had to be reset, everyone lost everything, because the admins didn't have any tools to undo everything from just that period, or delete all pollens or whatever, so there was a downtime of two days.
Our hero didn't think any of it and enjoyed his free internet time, writing a mail to the girl that reads, "Hey, it's all just a game, right? :D" or something along those lines.
After he hasn't heard of her for a week or so (waited for her at AIM, Vent etc.) he checks on the forums and PMs a few guys from the good order.
Turns out that she had a complete breakdown, can't stop crying and swore to never go on the internet, or love again. He was her first real crush, and she felt like he ripped her heart out and trampled on it.
His old order of evil eventually reformed, and he was back in his old position/rank, things went on as usual, just slightly set back, as everyone had to work for their wealth and equipment again.
The order of good, however, never truly recovered. Too few would dare to stand against the reputation of the 'Bad guys'.
And this is the story of how one guy fucked up a game for a few thousand people and utterly annihilated a girl. |
