are you plugging it in through a keyboard or something ? if yes, then plug it into a USB port on the computer instead. that error often comes up if the port you plugged into is not able to provide the power required

Try another port.
Check for drivers for the mouses.
Check for USB drivers update.

Then search for drivers is the next step you should do.
Go to start > run > type in "devmgmt.msc" and post screenshot if there is anything yellow or red.

Do BOTH of them not work?
Give us the manufacturer and model number on them if you don't know how to check for drivers for it.

Yeah, chipset drivers might help you. I'm assuming the mice have never worked before, or...? Confirm that other things work in the ports?

i have the exact same issue!, the ports work with any other device and all 3 of my mouses fail in all the usb ports on the computer , i 1st thought it was a port so i checked them by plugging in my usb key board and usb storage device (both worked) so then i thought it was my mouse so i tried 2 others and they both failed... so i tried them on my other computer and they worked.... after that i gave up

See USB system is an asymmetric design. If you install with proper manner & during you got O errors. Then you are free to use USB mouse. If a Simple pen drive could work comfortablywith your USB then It should not have any problem. But it still have try to change your USB on board device & change it if require.

If only the usb mouse do not work in the ports they are broken somewhere. I crushed my old mouse and it would keep saying device not recognized.
