The fact alone that you actually have to think about what you're doing, you need to have a strategy. You can't just rush, respawn, repeat. You have to know how to use the terrain to your advantage, you have to know where to hide, you need to learn all the shortcuts of the map. You have to be constantly aware of your surroundings, and make sure to have the priorities sorted out. A Medic is vital in Arena, so you must for all cost do all what you can to protect him. Otherwise you're simply dead. This all ends up in fun, competitive matches where everyone does their best. And people actually care about you doing your best, as every kill matters. If you manage to flank the enemy Medic, you're sure to get compliments from your teammates, people actually recognize your skill.
This game-mode also brings in the thing most people miss about Team Fortress 2 the most, the team part. If you don't play as a team, you get nothing. You lose. Good da-, team-play is required, but not only that. It comes natural. It's common sense to constantly stay together, to stay around the Medic. It's common sense to protect your Medic from firepower, it's common sense to take those rockets yourself, or perhaps airblast them away? As you have merely 1 life, all of this is vital to your own survival. All classes are needed, too. Scouts are needed for flanking, Heavys for firepower, Engineer for his buildings, Spy to get the high value targets, Demoman to push against the enemy team, Soldier to protect, Sniper to pick off the poor people standing 'round like bloody idiots calling for their Medic. And most of all, The Medic. The one class that is obligatory for everyone's survival. It all plays together so well. This is why Arena is TF2 at it's best.

I hate arena, i understand it's supposed to make you be careful and not rush out, but i think it's tf2 at it's worst. If i die i'm out for the rest of the round. I get pissed off when the respawn time is over 10 seconds.

Only good thing arena is for is dodgeball and prophunt
