| What is supposed to happen when a .ct file is opened in CE(?), as opposed to opening a .cetrainer file in CE?

a .cetrainer instantly executes the accompanying script without asking if it should be executed.
You can also launch a .cetrainer by doubleclicking it from the shell and it will get opened by ce without showing it's default window (a .ct will show ce's main window)
Also, a .cetrainer can be saved in a way that makes reading it quite difficult. With a .CT that can't be done

OK, thanks.
To go one step further, as a new user of CE and not a developer (as of yet), would there be any significant reason(s) to prefer one vs the other?

a .cetrainer is easy to distribute to people that get confused by the main ce window.
E.g, if they keep clicking on the cross on the top right part of the window, you might make a .cetrainer with a custom window that doesn't have that button
a .ct is useful to share your information and let other people add to it

@Axman,
- CT - We can see all scripts, used pointers, addresses. We can modify it. In fact, this is XML file. We can open and edit it with any text editor.
- CETRAINER - zlib compressed CT file.
- EXE ('tiny trainer size') - zlib compressed CT file inside EXE
Those above requires CE to be installed.
- EXE ("gigantic trainer size", also known as "standalone") - zlib compressed: CT file, cheatengine-i386.exe (or cheatengine-x86_64.exe), lua5.1-32.dll (or lua5.1-62.dll), dbghelp.dll, defines.lua. Everything compressed inside EXE file.
Sizes:
CETRAINER < CT
CETRAINER < EXEtiny
CETRAINER < EXEgigantic
EXEtiny < EXEgigantic
EXEtiny < CT (sometimes)
(assuming that they contain the same thing: forms, images, etc.)

Thank you, very helpful.
To return to my original post for a moment, I can open a .ct file or its compressed .cetrainer file in CE. I may see some differences in the first screen, and I may need to take more steps to enable scripts. However, either type of file should give the same basic functionality in-game. That is my understanding as of now.
Any comments or corrections?

Correct.
