5 things feminism has done for me...

1. I am no one's property. My life is my own - my mind, my body, my choices.

2. I am a full member of society, with the right to vote and be active in politics, the right to a liberal education, the right to be an activist and stand up for what I believe in.

3. Feminism has given me an outlet to an amazing community of women and men who live in ways that affirm the value of being a woman. This community has facilitated incredible personal growth and reflection for me in the last two years; I have relied on their support and benefitted so much from their strength.

4. I can have relationships with men that are based on respect and understanding; I can have a male partner without sacrificing my intelligence or independence. I can have relationships with women that are not based on competition and jealousy; I have incredible friendships that exist in a spirit of solidarity.

5. Feminism means I can expect more out of life than previous generations of women. I don't have to accept second-rate because I am a woman. I can expect more of myself and not limit my dreams to fit someone else's plans. I am able to express my thoughts and opinions without fear, and I have the confidence to defend myself when I am challenged. Feminism has given me a voice.
