while there may be several combinations of reasons as to why people take drugs, i feel the one that is prevalent in pretty much all users is because they are simply bored. not only that but some drugs can be used that do little to no harm/reversible 'damage' and when used responsibly users won't notice a different in everyday life.

most people who take drugs because they're "bored" usually take them because they're depressed. Depression takes the form of "boredom" in the younger population. By boredom i mean: "ehhhh why even bother? imma do nothing cuz there's no purpose and sighhhhh"
