ORATORACLE FESTIVAL
The Icon of Christ’s Descent into Hell is not an accurate recording of what took place in the bottom of the earth, but rather a spiritual imagery of the significance, reality and importance of what Christ has accomplished. We read from The Acts of Pilate, from the text of Nicodemus “The bronze gates were broken in pieces and the bars of iron were snapped; and all the dead who were bound were loosed from their chains, and we with them. And the King of Glory entered like a man, and all the dark places of Hades were illuminated...” Christ is shown standing on the gates of Hell which are held over a black hole in the form of a cross. Hell is depicted as a person, defeated and entangled.
Jesus is dressed in a white robe, orange or sometimes even dark shades of blue, or brown, but always with gold highlights emanating light from His transformed body, showing that He is the Light of the world. The only true son of god. As in it effecting our daily lives, what about Easter? Would you have Easter if Christ never resurrected? Would all those sins be repented if Jesus never died on the cross? Questions like these remain unanswered, but we can only guess that the answer to both would be no.
Before Jesus had been resurrected, the world was filled with Pious, arrogant, and blasphemous nobles, merchants, and even priests. Once Jesus proved that he is the only son of god, and repented the sins of others, these pious, arrogant, and blasphemous “Christians”, mankind found out that they must be devoted Christians to enter the gates of heaven. Fellow Christians need to lift one another by helping to fortify their faith so that they can achieve entrance into god’s kingdom.
There are many people in this icon. On the left side, we have the kings David and Solomon who are related to Christ. John the Baptist is also here. Some say that John died before Christ so that he could be the “Forerunner” even in Hell. Moses is also in this icon, wearing a Phrygian cap, he represents the first covenant and one who witnessed the first Passover. Cain, one of the sons of Adam and Eve is also here, being the first one to suffer from injustice and murder. Behind all else are merchants, nobles, and followers that recognize Christ for what he is.
I should type "and Jesus isn't real" on the bottom. _________________
