From my transition from XP to 7 I gained a few fps in half my games, dropped a few in some others. No noticeable effects as I can still maintain 60+ in basically everything.

if you're on anything remotely modern, you're more than likely to see no real differences. the fps problems at the earlier part of vista were from immature drivers.
opengl is fantastically fucking broken in earlier w7 ati drivers though.

| Well, since windows 7 is naturally designed for newer and thus higher powered computers, in effect you might lose a tiny bit of performance. Probably never anything major, though.

more like it's not just heavier on performance because it's newer, but rather there have been plenty of changes underneath. threading and task scheduling is handled differently in W7, i was just reading an intel thing on some of these changes which will become more prominent as systems gain more and more cores / parallelism.
gains will probably become increasingly apparent as hardware / software settles into the new stuff. dx11 will probably end up as a savior to multi-gpu scaling since all that is threaded as well.

XP is still the best (i think) but if you're not a pro win7 and vista should be ok^^

| They kinda balance out in a way.. W7 Has all the new feats like DX11 for example. XP is also good, some say theres less lagg in XP.

This, and it's still Windows. Some benefits, some pitfalls compared to others, but usually the same from version to version.
