I'd get some more RAM as a start
Depending on the type, a 2,2ghz Core 2 Duo isn't a bad CPU (of curse, anything could be better)
160GB 5400rpm HDD?, if its not a laptop i would upgrade it, but it might not be nessesary
But RAM, thats what i would do, its not too expensive. On idle my comp already takes up 1/3 of what you got (WinXP), and my Vista would've already spend all of it

1: upgrade your videocard 7xxx is way too old, at least use a 8xxx since it supports hardware physics. Later is even better.
2: Upgrade your ram to at least 2 GB ram (I recommend 4GB)
3: If needed, get a more powerful psu if 350 isn't good enough to power the new graphics card
cpu is good enough
The harddisk isn't that big of a problem either if you have more ram(so not a lot of paging memory to disk)

it's a matter of taste, I like nvidia's because of some extras you get (3d vision support, hardware accelerated physics, etc...)
but ati (now amd) is generally cheaper with same rendering speed

amd anything is cheaper and you can still get a gfx card that will max out something like crysis forunder 200 bucks. Unlike Nvidia cards, as far as I know, ATI cards come in different providers i guess they are. Like you can get a 4850 radeon from xfx, sapphire, powercolor, gigabyte. They all basically have the same thing. Some have different plugs. Personally I a ordering http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150351&Tpk=xfx%20radeon%204850 some time this week I hope. They are all generally the same card, but different colors or different monitor ports. Some have 1 of each, where this one has dual dvi. Hell, some have quad DVI for people who just want to never see anything besides a monitor. Physx from nvidia has been ported to the radeon cards. People have been doing it for the passed few years and AMD is all for it.
Point is, you don't have to spend out the ass for a gfx card that can play everything on high.
