I was about to watch a video on YouTube/VEVO and there was an ad by google, it played and w/e, I didn't do anything to anything. To video started with no sound, that ad had sound.
Going to restart my computer and see if that works, I'm on Ubuntu 9.10 btw
Edit: Restarting didn't do anything.
Edit2: I tried to play something again and it worked..for the first 5 seconds, all the while getting quieter and quieter. Now the sound wont work any more.

That's not what he means, I think he means like noises from your mobo. Like when you turn on sticky keys the beep.

Are you using speakers or headphones? Have an extra set of speakers you could test? or perhaps a set of headphones you could try in the headphone jack?
Also, might try updating your drivers. Is the soundcard integrated with your mobo or are you the only person I know that doesn't conform to such a thing?

Yeah, try updating your drivers, I had something like this before, caused by an update from Windows Vista SP1 to SP2.

Uninstall and re-install the drivers.
Your sound card might be dead.

You annoy me. Was that post really necessary? No? Didn't think so. While it's good you're trying to help, you really don't need to continue posting until the OP gives more info.
